Points for the 18 round season were awarded from all the races. With 10 points for a win, 8 for second & 4 for 5th, Fernando Alonso scored:- (10+8+10+8+8+10+10+10+10+4+8+4+8+8+10+8) = 134 Points. After 17 rounds Alonso and Schumacher were equal on points. At the next round at Suzuka, Schumacher suffered a rare engine failure and Alonso won the race, putting Alonso only 1 point away from the championship. In the final round Fernando Alonso finished 2nd winning the 2006 Driver's World Championship at the Brazilian GP.
