Fernando Alonso drove the Renault R26 in 2006 winning 7 Grand Prix:- Bahrain, Australian, Spain, Monaco, British, Canadian and Japanese GP's.

Points for the 18 round season were awarded from all the races.

With 10 points for a win, 8 for second & 4 for 5th, Fernando Alonso scored:- (10+8+10+8+8+10+10+10+10+4+8+4+8+8+10+8) = 134 Points.

After 17 rounds Alonso and Schumacher were equal on points. At the next round at Suzuka, Schumacher suffered a rare engine failure and Alonso won the race, putting Alonso only 1 point away from the championship.

In the final round Fernando Alonso finished 2nd winning the 2006 Driver's World Championship at the Brazilian GP. Michael Schumacher finished 4th becoming runner up in the championship by a margin of 13 points.
